This stunning and extremely unusual, hand-blown and hand-cut, 24% lead crystal bauble is cut adorned using the rarely used Battuto technique. The 2022 Limited Edition Collection is restricted to 50 baubles only. The purple ribbon has gold text reading "Cumbria Crystal Handcrafted 2022 "
The Battuto technique was developed in France and Italy and uses a multi-faceted wheel engraving process intended to represent beaten, or planished, metal. The process was often used by silversmiths and jewellers. The pattern is hand-cut to differing depths, loosely emulating planished metal, using a diamond lathe to recreate the effect.
The technique originated in the early 1900s, notably from the Daum glass works in Nancy, France. In Murano the process was a favourite of Carlo Scarpa at Venini & Co, as well as with contemporary Italian master glassblowers Lino Tagliapietra, and Davide Salvadore.
