Paul has worked for Cumbria Crystal since 1987 and is a specialist in acid polishing and the processing of glass after it has been blown. Paul is responsible for all the crystal that is acid polished at the factory. The polishing process is highly dangerous, involving immersing each piece of crystal in a mixture of 70% sulphuric and 30% hydrofluoric acid for a total of 42 minutes. There are only two acid polishing facilities in the UK that can commercially polish full-lead crystal.
Paul is also instrumental in maintaining and repairing many of the machines, training new staff and ‘charging’ the furnaces at the weekends with fresh glass for the coming week. Paul is absolutely dedicated to his job, an incredibly hard worker and is incredibly skilled. Tricky repair works will often be undertaken by Paul.
