Over an intensive six-hour period you will discover the potential of this unique material. You will work closely with your tutor who will guide you through many of the fundamental processes involved in glassblowing.  This tuition is very hands-on and will teach you how to gather hot glass from the furnace, then blow, shape and add colour to it. You should produce some basic forms such as baubles, paperweights, and simple vessels such as tumblers, vases, bowls or tealights.

This is a much more hands-on experience than our shorter experiences workshops, in which many of the more challenging processes are completed by your tutor. It is ideal for anyone who wishes to gain a more detailed appreciation of the craft. It may be purchased for yourself, or given as a gift, to make an unique, fun and memorable present.

This is NOT group tuition as offered by many places, but dedicated one-to-one tuition, ensuring you maximise the learning opportunities and develop your skills as quickly as possible.

This experience lasts 7 hours, with a one hour break for lunch, where a £10 lunch voucher will be provided for Booths Café (which is located opposite our factory).

Who is it for?

This stimulating experience is for those looking for a proper introduction to the principles and processes of glassblowing and who want to craft some unique and beautiful objects for their home, or to give as gifts. Due to the hands-on nature of this option, the minimum age is 16 years. You do not need any prior experience to take part in this session.

How to book

Demand for in-depth tuition into glassblowing is less predictable than for short experiences. Therefore we schedule dates for these with you directly once you have purchased the voucher via this page. Although we will do our very best, we cannot always guarantee your first choice of date, so we advise you contact us as early as possible if you have a specific date in mind. The voucher is valid for one year from date of purchase. All enquiries and questions should be directed to shop@cumbriacrystal.com

An Unforgettable, Hands-On Glassblowing Experience

I recently purchased a full-day glassblowing experience for my partner and me to celebrate a milestone birthday, and it turned out to be an unforgettable adventure. From the very start, the communication was seamless and well-organized, making us feel at ease as we approached the day. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and given a thorough safety briefing, followed by an enlightening tour of the factory. Witnessing each step of the glassmaking process firsthand was truly eye-opening. It gave us a profound appreciation for the immense skill, passion, and meticulous care that go into creating every single piece of glassware.

Our guide for the day, Annie-Rose, was exceptional. Her patience and expertise shone through as she led us through the basics, starting with gathering molten glass from the furnace. Under her careful instruction, we gradually advanced to creating our own unique pieces. Annie-Rose's calm and supportive approach made the experience both enjoyable and accessible, even for complete beginners like us.

One of the highlights was seeing the professional glassmakers working in the background. Their level of craftsmanship was mesmerizing; you can't help but stand in awe as they masterfully shape the glass. Adding to the personal touch, we were even greeted by Chris, the CEO of Cumbria Crystal, which made us feel incredibly valued as guests.

The day culminated in a special moment when I was given the opportunity to create a custom piece—a small glass designed specifically for weighing single doses of coffee and tea. It was a fun, personalized challenge that added a unique touch to the experience. Afterward, our creations were cured, processed, and later shipped to us, allowing us to treasure them as lasting mementos of our day.

This glassblowing experience was not only hands-on and educational but also deeply memorable. We'll always cherish the stunning pieces we crafted, a tangible reminder of a truly remarkable day at Cumbria Crystal.
