Get up close to the awe-inspiring process of turning sand into glass, as you witness the intense heat—reaching up to 1200°C — needed to shape this remarkable material. In this immersive experience, you’ll explore techniques that date back over 2,000 years to the time of the ancient Romans.

Under the guidance of one of our expert glassblowers, you’ll create your own multi-coloured crystal flower. Working One-on-One, your tutor will walk you through each stage of the process— from gathering molten glass to applying vibrant coloured chips and frits, and finally forming the petals using specialised tweezers while the glass is still hot and malleable.

Every flower is unique, shaped by your own hands, vision & skill. Being handmade the final form will vary however your tutor will help you get as close as possible to achieving your vision within the time available. This is a fascinating, hands-on introduction to a rare and ancient craft — a perfect blend of education, creativity, and unforgettable experience.

What to Expect During the Experience

Your session begins with a demonstration by your expert tutor, showing the full process of making a glass flower. You’ll then choose your colours from a curated palette and be introduced to key tools & processes.

With your tutor’s help, you’ll start by applying colourful frits and chips to molten glass for the stem, using the reheating chamber to fuse them. More clear glass is then gathered over your design, and you’ll add additioinal colours for the petals.

Using gravity, heat, and tweezers, you’ll shape your flower — multiple reheats will be necessary to refine the form. Your tutor will guide you every step of the way, helping you control the soft, flowing glass. Once shaped, the flower is carefully detached from the iron and placed in a kiln to cool slowly.

This experience offers a very hands-on, unforgettable journey into the heart of this ancient and mesmerizing craft.

Can I take my flower home straight away?

Sadly not. Your flower must cool from 420C to room temperature slowly to prevent it from shattering. This is usually a 24-48 hour process. Please ask for clarification when you arrive. 

Collection / Delivery

If you are unable to collect within a week, please let us know before you leave as we can organise for it to be posted.

Safety

To provide a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, each session is limited to two participants per hour. This enables our tutors to give you their full attention and ensure you have the best possible guidance throughout.

You’re welcome to bring along up to four guests to watch and capture photos of your glassblowing moment. They’ll be seated close by.

When you’re not actively working with the glass, we kindly ask that you remain seated for safety reasons. Each hands-on session lasts approximately 30 minutes, giving you plenty of time to create something truly special.

The minimum age for this experience is 16 years due to the increased close-contact exposure to hot, moving glass compared to other workshops.

For safety reasons, all participants must wear clothing that fully covers the legs and feet. Shorts, short skirts, sandals, stilettos, and similar footwear are not permitted.

We will provide safety goggles, arm sleeves, and gloves as needed to ensure your protection during the session.
