Greeting Card (Square): Glass Melting in a Furnace: CARD-SQ-11
On this card you can see is one of the two gas fired glass furnaces at Cumbria Crystal melting the raw materials to make crystal. Each furnace can melts around 500kg of crystal per week at temperatures up to 1450 degrees centigrade.
Using filters to darken the photograph, it is possible to see ‘batch’, the name for the raw materials of glass, just after it has been added to the furnace to start melting, a process which takes two days from start to finish.
This card is left blank for your personal message and comes with an envelope.

What is there not to love about handmade English crystal. I have been using Cumbrian English crystal for over 40yrs. My first pieces were sherry glasses in Grasemere pattern. I then treated myself to Grasemere champagne flutes. This crystal is timeless and I love seeing it on programs like ‘Downton Abbey’ I have so much Cumbrian crystal and use it daily. Recently I bought the apprentice Christmas baubles and got carried away buying 24. He limited edition 2024 champagne and Martini glasses, well I have bought so many as gifts for friends. If you do decide to buy Cumbrian crystal remember you are buying a bit of English history. A special shout to Tom and Nick ( well everyone really) this team is a team and the passion they have for this beautiful crystal
