Greeting Card (Square): Forming a glass foot on a wine glass: CARD-SQ-4
On this card you can see a glass foot on the bottom of a wine glass stem being crafted using traditional techniques. The glass is pre-heated using a gas torch before being rotated and squeezed into shape between two flat graphite pads. Historically, wooden boards were used, but these burn out too fast meaning that there is too much variation in the diameter of the foot.
A typical Cumbria Crystal wine glass will take about 12 days to make using traditional processes.

What is there not to love about handmade English crystal. I have been using Cumbrian English crystal for over 40yrs. My first pieces were sherry glasses in Grasemere pattern. I then treated myself to Grasemere champagne flutes. This crystal is timeless and I love seeing it on programs like ‘Downton Abbey’ I have so much Cumbrian crystal and use it daily. Recently I bought the apprentice Christmas baubles and got carried away buying 24. He limited edition 2024 champagne and Martini glasses, well I have bought so many as gifts for friends. If you do decide to buy Cumbrian crystal remember you are buying a bit of English history. A special shout to Tom and Nick ( well everyone really) this team is a team and the passion they have for this beautiful crystal
