An attractive and distinctive addition with a set of hand blown optic crystal decorations this Christmas.
Optic moulds have been used for hundreds of years to enable patterns to be formed into glass whilst it is hot. The aesthetic effect is different to that achieved by the time-consuming, cutting and polishing processes Cumbria Crystal is famous for, but is no less dramatic. This nature of the blowing & optic moulding presents trainee glass makers with a useful way to develop their 'mould-blowing' skills, which are an essential part of the Production Glassblower's toolkit.
Sales of this product play a critical role in helping the company support access to furnaces, training and development for our young glassblowers. A minimum of 15 years' experience is required before a Glassblower may join our one of our core production teams as a blower.
Products such as this help us offset some of the costs of training early career blowers.
There are now fewer than 30 Production Glassblowers and 8 glass-cutters remaining in the UK. In 2025 both crafts are to be formally classified as Critically/Endangered Heritage Crafts.
With no funding, or government support for training for this craft, your purchase of this product plays an important role in helping to sustain the crafts and pass on knowledge to younger generations.

I tend to hold a whisky tumbler with little finger under the base with forefinger and thumb around the middle . The knurling on the glass is perfect , so this and the comforting weight of the glass just adds to the enjoyment of my favourite single malt .
