LORE: Preserving Endangered Crafts

Earlier this year, Heritage Crafts (the national charity for heritage craft skills) added Cut Crystal Glass Making to the 'Red List of Critically Endangered Crafts'. 

Traditional crafts rely heavily on manual skills that often take many years to master, yet training for heritage crafts is increasingly limited due to growing economic pressures as well as cultural changes within wider society. Consequently, the number of these skilled workers declines with each generation. 

At Cumbria Crystal, we take great pride in having two of the world's finest master glass cutters dedicated to their craft. Rob and Jitka play an integral role in the creation of some of the most exceptional hand-cut crystal pieces available, having a significant hand in almost every piece of crystal to leave our workshop. 

Beyond crafting stunning crystalware, Rob and Jitka are currently nurturing the next generation of cut crystal glass makers. 

To empower and inspire our trainees, Rob has originated a beautifully mesmerizing, contemporary pattern for our trainees to develop their technique. This design was developed in response to a distinct brief: to engage the senses, exude style, feel exceptional in the hand, and elevate every drinking experience. 

We are thrilled to present the fruits of Rob, Jitka, Aria & Ben's combined craftsmanship.
