Every year Cumbria Crystal invites a a select group of students from the Royal College of Art, Britain's most famous, exclusively post-graduate art & design college, to work with our master cutters to learn how to design and cut crystal using traditional processes. They then develop concepts for collections, or products which may then manufactured by Cumbria Crystal.
This project gives students professional experience designing for production, the opportunity to develop a creative portfolio to work and to work with some of the most talented cutters in the world. Successful designs generate royalties to help towards the costs of postgraduate study.

I recently purchased a full-day glassblowing experience for my partner and me to celebrate a milestone birthday, and it turned out to be an unforgettable adventure. From the very start, the communication was seamless and well-organized, making us feel at ease as we approached the day. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and given a thorough safety briefing, followed by an enlightening tour of the factory. Witnessing each step of the glassmaking process firsthand was truly eye-opening. It gave us a profound appreciation for the immense skill, passion, and meticulous care that go into creating every single piece of glassware.
Our guide for the day, Annie-Rose, was exceptional. Her patience and expertise shone through as she led us through the basics, starting with gathering molten glass from the furnace. Under her careful instruction, we gradually advanced to creating our own unique pieces. Annie-Rose's calm and supportive approach made the experience both enjoyable and accessible, even for complete beginners like us.
One of the highlights was seeing the professional glassmakers working in the background. Their level of craftsmanship was mesmerizing; you can't help but stand in awe as they masterfully shape the glass. Adding to the personal touch, we were even greeted by Chris, the CEO of Cumbria Crystal, which made us feel incredibly valued as guests.
The day culminated in a special moment when I was given the opportunity to create a custom piece—a small glass designed specifically for weighing single doses of coffee and tea. It was a fun, personalized challenge that added a unique touch to the experience. Afterward, our creations were cured, processed, and later shipped to us, allowing us to treasure them as lasting mementos of our day.
This glassblowing experience was not only hands-on and educational but also deeply memorable. We'll always cherish the stunning pieces we crafted, a tangible reminder of a truly remarkable day at Cumbria Crystal.
After a full day experience and seeing the amount of work that goes into handcrafting, including hand cutting the patterns, I knew that I had to purchase a piece and this was what I chose. I was not disappointed; The detailing and textured pattern on the glass give it an elegant and premium feel, which enhances the drinking experience by adding a tactile element. The thick base also adds to its luxurious quality, providing both sturdiness and a solid feel in the hand.
The Summer collection of Champagne Coupe’s are beautiful, so much so that I bought numerous amounts of the different styles as gifts for friends. Cumbrian crystal in the Lake District are the best company to deal with as nothing is to much trouble. I have to give a shout out to Tom and Nick, always on the end of a phone with any help I need. This company has old school values which is rare in today’s world of mass consumerism

I ordered two large brandy glasses. They arrived quickly. They are magnificent. All other brandy glasses pale in to insignificance.
These are a firm favourite. I can’t recommend them highly enough. If you are in two minds whether to buy them or not. All I can say is “buy them” you won’t regret it
