These Christmas decorations are hand-blown using 24% lead crystal and embellished with a selection of coloured glass frits. These are melted into the glass and manipulated in different ways to give each bauble a unique decorative pattern.
No two baubles are the same so the images here are for illustrative purposes.
It takes on average 15-years for a glass blower to develop the skills to work with the Cumbria Crystal production team. With the decline in traditional glass making factories it is increasingly hard for aspiring artisans to find somewhere that can support them whilst they embark on this journey. It is essential to recruit, train and support the talent of tomorrow however the time, commitment and cost of doing so is astronomical, especially since it is not possible to get government funding to support this skills development.
These coloured baubles are made by young, aspiring glass student graduates with two to four years' experience. Your decision to purchase these helps enable us to deliver this training for the artisans of tomorrow.
